Welcome to the Eden Lacy
Eden Lacy enjoys one of the most picturesque locations in the Eden Valley, which is on the eastern side of Cumbria by the Lake District.
It is the location of three cottages which are available for holiday lets or long weekends.
All three holiday cottages nestle in idyllic, scenic, rural settings overlooking the beautiful River Eden. They are all very individual and are renovated, furnished and presented to a high standard.

Eden Lacy Lodge is peacefully tucked away with stunning views up the river valley. Refurbished and decorated to a high standard, it provides charming all year round accommodation for couples looking for tranquility or even romance.
Force Mill is a delightful, detached, Grade II listed, stone farmhouse which has been completely transformed into an immaculate holiday home. Retaining its original cottage character, its charm is enhanced by beautiful furnishings and modern fittings. Positioned right on the beautiful riverbank by a weir, this is a truly idyllic location.
Crakeld Holm was originally a sandstone bank barn dating from the 18th century but is now transformed into a fabulous detached four-bedroom house. Much of the original character has been retained, in particular the main entrance with its lovely sandstone archway which leads into the original upper hayloft. This is now a dramatic open-plan living area and kitchen with traditional slit windows, hefty timber beams and high ceiling. The room itself is a showstopper, only bettered by the wonderful southerly view from the French windows and balcony out over the river and viaduct beyond.
Eden is a haven for peace, tranquility and a vast variety of wildlife, perfect for ornithologists and country lovers.
It is an outstanding area for walking, whether for a hike on the high open fells or a gentle riverside stroll. Cyclists will love the quiet country lanes and the C2C cycle route. Outdoor activities don’t stop here - why not try canoeing on Ullswater (10 miles), a spot of fishing on the doorstep for trout, salmon and grayling (by prior arrangement with the owners), pony trekking or golf in Penrith (6 miles).
There are attractions for the whole family including a cruise on Ullswater, a ride on a restored railway high in the North Pennines, and even alpacas and ostriches to meet! Surrounded by dramatic landscapes including Ullswater and the north eastern fells, it is also close to both the borders of Scotland and the Yorkshire Dales. This secluded and unspoilt destination will inspire, rejuvenate and refresh visitors at any time of the year. A lively calendar of events adds to a holiday here with festivals of all kinds, country and craft fairs, farmers’ markets, and traditional agricultural shows to name just a few.
Although still very much a working farm, much of the land has been given over to conservation projects, indeed Eden Lacy was a national finalist in the prestigious Purdey Game and Conservation awards recently.
We are committed to improving and enhancing the flora and fauna, although the river and riverbank are of particular personal interest and consequently we particularly take an active role within the Eden Rivers Trust.
Recent Eden Lacy projects have involved improving riverbank habitat by fencing off large areas to protect from stock damage, erosion and pollution by fertilisers and sprays. We have initiated a programme of bank-side tree planting to enhance the environment for wild animals and as a result have seen an improvement in the populations of indicator species such as water vole and otter which is particularly pleasing.
We have land set aside to promote butterflies and we manage it naturally to help nurture the extensive selection of wild flowers we are fortunate to have. Eden Lacy is one of the last outposts for the Red Squirrel and at the moment they thrive here. We provide data and support the work of the local Red Squirrel conservation groups. |
